Angela Harris

Angela is a counsellor and psychotherapist with twenty years experience. She brings to her work the values of respect, openness, curiosity, patience, and on occasion, the therapeutic use of humour.  She believes deeply in the importance of connecting with clients so they are able to feel heard, valued, acknowledged and understood.  The focus of Angela's works is to take a range of complex issues and get to the heart of what matters.  Her approach is both pragmatic and deeply compassionate with a focus on supporting clients to have a sense of hope, new insight and a greater connection to self. 

 

Angela has previously worked within various community and health related settings.  This includes counselling agencies, domestic violence settings, drug and alcohol counselling and as the coordinator of counselling of a university counselling service. 

 

Prior to her role as a therapist, she gained seventeen years management experience in the area of marketing and gained skills as a Company Director, working in strategic planning and management.  She has a particular interest in the importance of employee mental health and the impact this has on both the individual and the organization.

 

Her work is influenced through her training in the therapeutic areas such as ACT Therapy, Attachment theory, Systemic Family Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Mindfulness.

 

Particular areas of expertise include:

 

  • Depression, anxiety or stress

  • Couples and family counselling

  • Loss or grief

  • Health related difficulties particularly in the area of cancer

  • Dealing with chronic or sudden illness

  • Addiction and substance abuse

  • Low self esteem

  • Personal development

  • Organisational difficulties and employee mental health

 

Angela is a Level 4 member of the Australian Counselling Association and provides professional supervision.

 

Angela is not currently taking new clients.
